"In my case I have been known to substitute a modest teaspoon [of butter] for the generous tablespoon.
Finally, I do think the way to a full and healthy life is to adapt the sensible system of "small helpings, no seconds, no snacking, and a little bit of everything." Above all--have a good time!
What a happy task you have set for yourself! The pleasures of the table are infinite. Toujours bon appétit!"
-Julia Child, Mastering the Art of French Cooking
I am LOVING my new cookbook! It's the gift that keeps on giving.
¡Hasta Luego!
I know it's not the same, but I loved the movie! I can imagine the books is filled with all these small nuggets of wisdom :)

ReplyDeleteIn the movie, I only liked Julia's story (Julie kind of annoyed me), but it totally put this book on my radar, and I am kind of reading it like a novel, because she paid so much attention to detail and instruction. The first 30 pages are all about ingredients and technique, and I'm trying a recipe tonite. I'm excited (and slightly nervous...French food in INVOLVED!)
ReplyDeleteI got that book last year for my birthday and I have only used it 3X. Mostly because I spent so much time reading it and enjoying it and then got too busy to cook. It is a great read, one of the best of any cookbook I own---simple and instructional tips for life.
ReplyDeleteI agree handsdown that it's the best cookbook, probably ever! It reads like a delicious novel, and I've realized, after my first attempt at coq au vin, that it really is super importatnt to read the intro to teqniques, defnitions, etc. This is easily going to be my go-to resource for recipes, and I'm excited
