Churrasco!

In Brazil, churrasco is the term for a barbeque which contains a variety of meats, which may be cooked on a purpose built "churrasqueira", a grill or barbeque, often with supports for spits or skewers.

In other words, meat-o-topia. It was a carnivore's dream, a vegetarian's nightmare, a flexatarian's excuse to eat pork, and the best damn Saturday I've had in a while. It's official, summer is here!

I apologize for the lack of good pictures. But I was wrist deep in grilled meats and several drinks in by the time I remembered my camera. My Bad

The Spread.

I have to mention the chorizo (not pictured). It was life. changing. No busllshit!

World Cup Fever

England vs. USA.
Considering the odds against us, good job on the draw USA!

It pays to have a friend in a Samba Band. It pays for that friend in the samba band to to be a summer baby, Happy Birthday, Max!

Caipirhinas. Not a drink for the faint of heart drunk, lol.

the best things in life come in cups!

What makes BBQs so awesome is laughter, drum lessons, cute little girls who love dogs, samba dancing, and great conversations.  I had such a good time, I forgot to have someone take a picture of me. Damnit, I suck at this!

she was all about kona. It was too cute!

This, my friends, is how you kick off summer!

World Cup, Top Chef, Viva Africa!

Merry World Cup Friday everyone!

In case you didn't know, today is the first day of the World Cup hosted by South Africa, and yes I did make sure I watched kick off this morning! I'll be honest with you, I'm not the sports fan I used to be, and the sports fan that I used to be never really watched futbol. But this year is different. This year is special. This is the first time ever an African nation is hosting the World Cup. That's a pretty big deal, because if you hadn't noticed, Africa is the most marginalized and misunderstood continent--get that--continent in the world. So in the spirit of Their Eyes Were Watching Africa, I'm now a futbol fanatic! Adding to my African Nationalist excitement is the sweet realization that I will be in España during the tail end of the World Cup. I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be an endless supply of debauchery, Spaniards, and Me+3!  Allá donde fueres, haz lo que vieres!* VIVA AFRICA!

I feel it! this is my favorite picture.

I would be more than flattered if enough people found my blog to make a stink about me stealing pictures.
As if that weren't enough, this month's issue of Vanity Fair would make a blind woman see, a sighted woman, such as myself, inappropriately whisper sweet nothings to the men on the cover while in the check out line at Whole Foods.

GOOOOOOOOL!

U.S.A.! Viva Africa!
Moving on. Wait, take one more good look at those pics. Now we're moving on.

It shouldn't surprise you that I'm a Top Chef fanatic. Wednesday marked the finale of the Top Chef Masters, and the final 3 contestants were Susur Lee, Rick Moonen, and Marcus Samuelsson.

I have personally been a fan of Marcus Samuelsson for years. He's an Ethiopian Chef with world class talent and recognition! Samuelsson is known for his ability to meld his Ethiopian heritage and Swedish upbringing to create his internationally fused cuisine. More importantly, he is painfully aware of the lack of dialogue of Africa within the culinary world, and has made it his mission to change that. Which is why I was so thrilled when he won, and now has the title of Top Chef, Master.  I couldn't prouder!

Marcus, you are Top Chef, Master!

And the fact that he is easy on the eyes doesn't hurt either.

It's been a good week for Africa. I'm ecstatic.

VIVA AFRICA!

The "Luther" and other Fatness at the Beach

I hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend! I sure did, which is why I'm just blogging about it now. [still no policy post...I'll get to it I swear!] As to be expected on this momentous holiday [did you stop to remember our veterans?] there was beaching, boozing, and BBQing . I now present to you, my trip down fatness lane:

Saturday it rained off and on, so rather than hit the beach, we did Delaware TAX FREE outlet shopping! [I was a very good girl, purchased only vacation necessities and spent less than $50]. A breakfast fit for shopaholics was necessary, which, of course meant donuts!

"The Luther"  If you are a fan of the Boondocks, (start at 2:01) you should know what I'm talking about, lol.

Its actually a Prunewich from the Fracture Prune Donut Shoppe. If there is one near you, check them out. Best.Donuts.EVER!
*In my defense, its not actually as bad as the Luther, the donuts aren't glazed and its not a hamburger*
**Defense killer: It was effin' delicious and I didn't feel an ounce of guilt for eating it. Not one ounce**
***again, in my defense, I would never eat more than two of these a year, seriously***

The Donuts. Oh you thought I went to Fractured Prune and just got a prunewich? Umm....negative!

French Toast & Strawberry Shortcake. Orgasmic! And the coffee with cream, no sugar, was a perfect complement!

had to do the promo shot. Those are Joe's hands, not mine [obviously]
So I was too hungry to take pictures of the wings and pizza for dinner, but really there's nothing special about pizza and wings anyway. On to Dewey!

I did mention there was boozin, right? [that's Joe, Hill's boo-love, not some random white guy, LOL]

There was no way we weren't taking a pic with Allen from the Hangover!
*It should be mentioned that Dewey Beach Nightlife is very college night life like. It brings fond memories from UD*
Sunday at Rehoboth Beach!

You know, we actually didn't take a single pic of us lounging about on the beach. There was entirely too much girl talk going on for that.  And then we got hungry....

What the fastest growing burger chain in the country that's so good that even Obama [Hope & Change!] has been famously seen going there that's now at the beach and you wouldn't think its what you want to eat at the beach until you see it and the smell lures you in the door and before you know it you're ordering a meal??

That's right, it's 5 Guys!

The grease spots = love. Kinda like butter, but peanut oil instead.

The Rehoboth Beach tradition as dictated by Thrashers (best fries on the boardwalk) is ketchup is for burgers, salt and malt vinegar are for fries! <3

and then there was the cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, and grilled onions. It was GLORIOUS.
I got a "Little Burger" rather than the regular because sitting behind us on the sand there was this Asian barbie doll chick with ridiculous breast implants and zero body fat, which was pissing me off as I was stuffing my face with 5 Guys. Go figure.

Great BBQ. Almost no pics.

So after the beach, I went Toya's for her first BBQ as a Wife and Homeowner [an hour north of the beach, yeah I was a road warrior!] Needless to say all that driving [with the poodle in tow] was exhausting. I was having way too much fun and too tired to remember to take pics of all the food I ate. But I do have these gems...

Lots of laughing, lots of boozing
Blueberry Yum Yum. Oh yes
Its a shame I didn't take pics of the food, there were the usual: burgers, hot dogs, potato salad. And there were some pluses, like mac n cheese, seafood salad and crabs. I actually did think about taking pics of the crabs, but by then I was already elbow deep in old bay. and besides, we all know eating crabs looks a lot like this:

not a good look, son.
But at the end of the day, or more like 2am, it was a great and tasty weekend.

Happy Memorial Day!

Eat, Drink, Miss the Train, & Be Merry!

Birthdays are always an interesting experience for me. Always. Sometimes they're bad interesting--like when my dog died 4 days before my birthday then my great grandmother died the week after. Sometimes they're outrageous, like the year I celebrated in NYC and this guy bit me on my shoulder [no bullshit!]--but I still had a GREAT time! This year's birthday experience was no different, as it had its share of dramatic events. But regardless of those events, my birthday overwhelmingly AWESOME. Thank you to all my family, friends, and random strangers/potential new friends who made it one I'll always remember :-)

Remember my networking event? It was great! I made some great connections, met some new potential friends, [which as you may know is really hard to do once you get out of school], and shamelessly flirted from time to time [remember there were drink specials...]

Alihah and I had such a great time, in fact, that we left the venue later than we should've, got caught up tax day post office traffic, and I missed the last train out of DC! Alihah had to drive me all the way back to bmore, then turn around and go back to Arlington--[that's what friends are foooor!]--and somehow we both made it into work the next day!

Friday, I found out I got my first blog award! Maddy from The Maddy Chronicles has bestowed upon me a Best Blogger Award! I am beaming from ear to ear! Thank You Maddy!! :-D

I'd like to thank the academy...(insert inappropriate Kathy Griffin style joke here) [I'm sorry Jesus, you know I love you, but it was funny!]

Saturday was my Birthday Dinner. Normally, I have gone to some club and drank/danced the night away--with mixed results.  This year, I wanted something low key and easy to execute, not because I'm getting old, but because I'm not finished paying for my expensive ass amazing awesomely fantastic vacation. And I'd rather not resort to go-go dancing at the local gay bar in order to do so...then again some extra cash is always a good thing when I'm in Europe...but I digress...

Dress Reveal...

Just because I was only having a dinner didn't mean I couldn't dress to drop jaws, lol...
I owe a big THANK YOU to Jonesy over at The Bliss List for putting me on to www.asos.com where I got this dress for a price that was almost too good be true!

we laughed...
OK...it turns out I don't have any great pics of us laughing...but I know somebody does

we drank...

we ate...

Tapas is one of my favorite dining experiences: small plates and lots of choices. We dined at Pazo, which in my opinion is the swankiest eatery in Baltimore.  Its a huge converted warehouse space, the food is always on point, and the drinks will get ya drunk! Its one of the few places in Baltimore to see and be seen in. I recommend the veal and pork empanadas and the scallion bruschetta with goat cheese!

We drank some more

We laughed and ate a lot more...

a good time was had by all!

So I thought that 2X was going to be "my year." Well life didn't work out the way I thought it would [big surprise] but I was still a good year, I learned a LOT about myself, and all that jazz...

Well, I'm a year older, certainly a year wiser, and I can't wait to see what 2x+1 will bring...
