It's My Birthday, and I'll Pole if I Want To!

So today is my birthday. And I'll pole if I want to, because poling makes me happy, and I need happy. I'm sure you've noticed, I've been absent on the blog, and when I haven't been absent, I've been a bit meloncholy. I'm hoping that will go away soon, and in an effot to beat the "my life kinda sucks blues", I have decided to throw myself entirely into activities that make me feel better, mainly the blog and the pole. I've already begun to immerse myself more in my poling, and recently attended two pole jam/workshops. And what would a pole post be without pictures? If ever I deserved a "yay" for progress, this would be it. Check out the before and after (pics below).

This is a cross ankle release on a 45mm chrome pole. I'm still working on it on the 50mm brass pole we use at my studio, but I know I can get it.

This is a head stand, with grasshopper legs. It's easier than it looks, I promise.

This is the Gemini. I can usually do this handless, but I was slippery that day

This is me on a spinning pole! I have to have one for my apartment!

I like to call this one the ninja climb. Awesome strength builder!

A layback. My back is still overarched, but that's just the way God made me.

Not my best at the pretzel, but I can do it perfectly now, I just have to get a pic of it

This is my hands free Gemini. one of my favorites.

  1. well got damn. First happy birthday. second, got damn again. I really need to look into these classes. and im sorry about the life sucking bit. I know work sucks. YOU KNOW I KNOW how it feels but i've also decided to do the same thing which is focus on what makes me happy and the larger picture. And every time you talk about this class i just think about that chris rock joke about it being a dads job to keep his daughter off the pole.

  2. Bernie, I'm so jealous! I've never wanted to work out so badly in my life. I hate being my normal self. I think I'll start with going back to dance class and the gym first though. Enjoy your bday! Hope to you soon! (wink)

  5. Thanks Chavonne. yeah, I can't even talk about work anymore. As for pole classes, I love the irony of it all. My mom doesn't know I pole...yet...she's gonna freak when I get around to telling her, lol

  7. Happy belated birthday...must say the post already won with the pictures - not because I'm a guy, but because I'm a dancer. Hopefully you had a great birthday and feel happy now. Have a great weekend.

  11. You are not a former anything. If you're out there getting on the pole, you're a dancer as far as I'm concerned (I mean, I haven't danced in an official capacity in years). Just keep enjoying yourself...that's all that matters.
