Bourbon Vanilla Blondies + Giveaway= TGIF!

I don't know about you, but it's been quite a week for me. In the last five days, I have seriously considered quitting my job--twice, received my first acupuncture treatment, realized I have no choice but to pursue my plans for an Etsy shop lest I want to go to Spain with my old point n shoot, gotten about 20 hours of restful sleep, suffered through four nightmares, received my package for my CSN product review and found out that a 12" cast iron skillet is really fucking big, realized I lost my $10 bottle of mighty grip yet still attempted a pole split and didn't fall to my death (success pending on LOTS of stretching, mighty grip and a miracle), successfully made brownies and blondies of "insane greatness" and subsequently consumed half of each batch, thereby ingesting an estimated 3000 auxiliary calories that I'm sure will show up on my lower stomach three days before I leave for the beaches and men of Spain AND finally gave in to the feelings that I could no longer deny and admitted to myself and world via Facebook that I'm in love.........with Pauly D from Jersey Shore. Don't judge me.

So let's talk about those blondies. What's a blondie, you ask? Blondies are exactly what they sound like, which are a chocolate free, or "blonde" version of brownies. While a chocolate free version of any form of dessert may be considered sacrilege to some, it's a welcome variation on a American classic to others. I mean, even if you are a self proclaimed raging chocoholic connoisseur of fine cocoa based confections, can you really deny the awesomeness that results from combining browned butter is lust, brown sugar, bourbon, and vanilla extract?? I didn't think you could. Just admit it. It doesn't mean you love chocolate any less. I won't tell anyone. Scout's honor.

Butter is love; Buerre Noisette c'est la luxure

The smell of browned butter and brown sugar combined is glorious. This should be a candle scent.

This is where things go from good to awesome

So I can't cut in a straight line to save my life. A cutting guide is on my list for the future, but for now, whose complaining?

And now the moment you've been waiting for, the giveaway! As promised, I am giving away a batch of each of these "browned butter sweets". Entry is very simple. You just have to be a follower of the blog (via GFC, reader, etc-please indicate which you use) and leave a comment naming your favorite sweet treat, and indicate if you want brownies or blondies. Follow on FB and Twitter for extra entries. That's it! The giveaway is open until Thursday, March 10th and the winners will be announced Friday, the 11th, which is when I hope to have my Etsy shop ready to take orders!

Now that's how you kick off the weekend! Merry Freakin' Friday!!

  1. OMG, blondies! Browned butter and brown sugar? Yes, please!

You're making me want to do some recipe research. I know two people who started selling baked goods this week. Maybe I should stop giving away all my secrets on my blog!

P.S. I like that your lines aren't perfectly straight. It lets people know they are home made.

  2. I'll one up you on the embarrassment...I kinda like The Situation! Not that he's cute or anything, but he just seems like a really fun guy! If he partied with me and my friends, we'd totally have a blast! And I hear you on one of those crazy week. I started off on a crazy high, sunk down to the lowest lows and I'm slowly making my way up again....oh and I considered quitting my job about 3 times this week too, as well as committing a few felonies ;o) I could use a stack of those blondies to numb the pain!

  4. I MUST have these! My favorite sweet treat is bread pudding. I would like blondies, which might just replace bread pudding as my favorite.

  5. Those look amazing. They are intriguing to me in the same way that I'm tempted to make chocolate chip cookies without the chocolate chips (but only with my mama's recipe of splendor, as the dough is so. damn. good. I've yet to attempt brownies from scratch, but as soon as I cross that off my list, I'll tackle blondies. And when I do, I'm using your recipe.

  6. Lol, I know I deserve that side eye. I don't know what's wrong with me. and lol, and holding out on being the first poster. Right now, you're the only one pulling for brownies, so the odds are heavily in your favor.

  7. I understand where you're coming from. I got back and forth with liking The Situation. He seems like he would be a lot of fun up until the point where he turns into a total creepster--which he does with no warning! And believe it or not, my week actually got worse on friday afternoon, I'm still recovering. sigh...

  8. I think you could make bank selling some of your cakes! Even if you're recipes are on the blog, there are many baking challenged people out there, and those people like cake! I did some very informal recipe research, and was all over the place until I found this brownie recipe. It's life changing, I'll never eat out of the box brownies again! I'm glad you like the home made look, because buying a cutting guide is soo on the bottom of my list of things to spend money on, lol

  10. making brownies from scratch is just as simple as the boxed stuff--minus the browning of butter, but that's optional. but the difference in taste vs. effort is mind blowing. never eating boxed brownies again. And that cookie dough sounds kind of awesome. I love cookie dough..and brownie/blondie batter for that matter, lol
